Just curious, as this will (may) be my first fest, if there are some things that you must do, see during Funfest?
I would like to see it all and do it all but I dont think that is realistic, but also dont want to miss something special.
Plan is arrive on Friday and do what I can Sat & Sun.
Any advice from the Funfest vets is appreciated.

There's not much to do there in Effingham it's a small town. But take time and go to the cross and watch the movie of it being built 7-8 mins, plus if your into Harleys they have the Barn it's a HD dealer, That's about it. For the wifes at exit 206 on 57 theres some Outlet malls but thats about 50 miles or so from Effingham

But Effingham is not Chicago so you gotta look for some fun after the show is over. I manage to find some good conversation right in the hotel parking lot. Usually someone is having a few cold ones and talking shop.
I stay at a hotel off of Fayette. There is a restaraunt right next door to the Comfort Suites. Niemerg's, look for the place with all the cars in it all the time. I have had some of the best meals anywhere there for really great prices.
If you follow Fayette East to Route 45 there is a small mall call Village Square where there is a movie theater. (My wife enjoys seeing a movie without the kids) In that same parking lot there is a bar, I don't recall the name but they have billiards and I saw an Ac/DC tribute band one time, (if you are into Rock and Roll)
There is another place called Sneaky Pete's, which may be the name of the above place, but I'm not sure. If it's not that one then its in downtown Effingham which is off of Jefferson. Small bar, roudy crowd, lots of fun. (Actually was flashed by a woman who was showing my wife and I her two new purchases !!)
If you are religious, then you need to see the Giant Effingham Cross at the Crossroads. (just south of Exit 159 of of 57/70. Not much going on there, but you have to see just how huge this thing is. There is something reflective or spiritual going on there if you look hard enough.
If you are into German food then the County Fairgrounds will be holding Schuetzenfest. There is a classic Car Show there too and its Friday and Saturday.
Into Harleys, Chromecoming on Saturday at Legacy Harley on Althoff Ave in Effingham.
If you are into guitars like I am, and get that craving there is a music store right off of Fayette, with screwy hours, but a reasonable stock of guitars.
Don't forget there is a concert on the grounds on Saturday night, REO Speedwagon. Not my favorite, but hey its free, you can bring a few and smoke a cigar and remember how old we really are. (well some of us, anyway)
There is a decent outlet mall on the ride north on 57 for the wife's to enjoy. I know my wife is already thinking Coach Bag Outlet Store. And you think Vette parts are expensive. It's called teh Tanger Outlet and it's in Tuscola. It's pretty big and the guys can find something there I'm sure. (if there is any money left after Vette parts)
So be adventurous and look around, you may find something that you missed. I'm looking forward to a weekend without and screaming kids.
Great Tips, Dave! I'm going to have to look into some of those. I'm staying in Mattoon just because there weren't any rooms left!! Not that bad, though. Can't wait, as this is my first MAJOR event. See you guys there!
