Default Chin spoiler hits often??

Ok, Im new to the C5 now a week old in my garage,, but it seems like my chin spoiler is getting a lot of road rash. My C4 seldom hits bumps in the road,, but my C5 seems to find them all.. Is it just me or does other C5 owners find their chin spoilers hitting and scraping quite often???? thanks ron..

You need a new aftermarket exhaust system.

Get used to it. It is best to alter your driving habits when it comes to driveway approaches. I found it clears better when you drive up/down at an angle. Sometimes you just get surprised with something in the way that scrapes the air dam. At least they are flexible enough to take it and cheap enough to replace if needed.

It's rubber and plastic and is designed to touch. No big deal. If you want it to stop touching, slow down.

Ron, I thought the same thing when I got my C5. My center one was missing, so I put it on, but in the wrong position. Told my mechanic who put it in the right place. It hits now only occasionally.

Even driving exceedingly slow I tend to scrape ALOT. (My car is stock height) the roads around SW Connecticut suck. Tons of high spots and big dips in the roads. Also alot of driveways are built with 30 degreen inclines even at stores/restaurants If its road bumps going slow is all you can do. If its a parking lot entrance or a driveway I try to take it at an extreme angle half the time I scrape lightly anyway ;/

Yea, OK

Sounds like your car may be lowered. It's going to scrape unfortunately, but it won't hurt the car and the pieces are inexpensive to replace

I lived in CT (only moved to FL 7 months ago) and my car is slammed. I didn't touch. A change in driving style is what is needed.

Oh yea, The first week I had mine I actually did plenty of scraping. Altering your approach is about the only way to go. I also have some areas I used to drive in my truck that I now avoid in the vette simply due to horrible road conditions.

On a side note, I ran over a racoon last week doing 75 on the hiway... thank god I took him directly down the center and there was NO damage. Driving a Corvette definitely makes one change their habits ...

Default Scrapping the chin

I have to quote what one of the forum members said in another post (sorry, cannot find it now).

"If you ain't scrapping, you ain't low enough".

I love this. I need this written on a Corvette poster and hung in my garage.

WTF does exhaust have to do with the chin spoiler.

Mine scrapes even when I am slow but not as much as when I'm not. The engineers that designed the streets of Los Angeles and driveways must have had stock in the chin spoiler manufacturer.

EG I drive like a grandmother most of the time and I still scrape at least 2 times per day. Not massively but it happens. I've seen you say this before and I'm telling you in the Norwalk to Stamford area it SUCKS. I don't know where in Fairfield county you are (Ridgefield area rocks for vettes been going up there alot lately) if your in the more north areas of Fairfield County then I could see you getting away with it.

You've been driving alot longer in one of these than me and I'm sure are a better driver. Honestly I'd love to see what your doing diffrently than I am. If your driving around slammed hard in Stamford to Norwalk we need to meet up or something so I can see how its done. Normal roads are no biggie (just annoying) its the driveways / speed bumps. There's one driveway I go up sometimes (clients house) that is so extreme I actually end up on opposite front back wheels I actually don't scrape that one lol. Also RTE 7 heading through Wilton is a disaster. Slammed through there makes me cringe.

Hello and welcome.
Are we talking about the stock hard rubber air dams that are 3 peice factory equipment?
Or the ACI chin spoiler?

He's talking about the air dam...

FYI, Buell---it's on springs as well... it's made to get out of the way.

Not a big deal.

Mine scrapes every now and then. No big deal - the parts are cheap and easy to replace. Try going in driveways at an angle and same with speed bumps (or just slow to a crawl).

A loud exhaust will drown out the sound of your air dam scraping, because there is no way you are going to prevent it from happening, no matter how carefully you drive.
