Default Silverstar Ultra's

Saw that Sylvania brought out an upgraded Silverstar called Ultra.

The local Autozone is carrying them in the 9005 and 9006 sizes, about $45.00 per pair. Package says they are 25% brighter, but doesn't mention brighter to what, the original Silverstars or regular halogen bulbs. There is no mention of these on the Slyvania website, they might not have updated the website yet.

Anyone have experience with these newer versions??

look on the package and read the lumen output.

if the 9006 is not > 1000 and the 9005 is not > than 1700 they will not be any brighter than the bulbs available now.

don't go by watt rating either.

Checked out the information on the packaging.

There is no data printed on Lumen output, once you get into the details behind the astricks, it says they are 25% brighter than there standard halogen bulb, but no mention as to how much brighter than the original silverstar. Package says 30% increased bulb life compared to the original silverstar, so if your getting a year on average, these might last 4 to 6 months longer. It says they put out light at a greater distance, but no data to support the comment. I'll pass and stick with my Wagner Tru-views.

I would look into getting the Toshiba HIR 9011 bulbs, They are definitely brighter then Silverstars. You do have to the 9005 modification to install them in the low beam sockets.
