Default Comments from kids at work:

For the past 6 months, I've managed a car wash / auto appearance center while looking for a "real" job. Well, today was my last day, as I am starting a new career next week. Most of the employees are high school kids or college students. Majority are ricers, but they still appreciated american hp (my C5), even though I did came out of the store many times thinking they were mowing the lawn only to find them revving there engines. There have been many comments that made me roll my eyes or just start laughing, but I thought I'd share a few with you guys.

1. Employee asking me about my FRC

Kid: What's under the hood?
Me: a 350
Kid: I know that, what kind?
Me: Oh, an LS1
Kid: Cool, VTEC's are better though
Me: (He was "let go" a week or two later)

2. Same employee as no. 1. A 3/4 ton diesel comes in with manual trans.

Kid: I can't believe they put manuals in these big diesels.
Me: Didn't say anything, didn't know where to begin or what
to say

3. This just happened the other day. We were slow, so this kid asks me if he can mess with his car (mid 90's camry, totally stock 4 cyl, nice car) I say ok and come out a little later to see what he is doing. He was getting ready to crawl under the car with a drill that has a half inch or so bit on it.

Me: What are you doing?
Kid: Drilling some holes to make it sound better
Me: In what, the muffler??
kid: Ya, so it sounds louder and meaner
Me: OOOOKKKK....I just walked off laughing

Most kids are good. They'll probably grow out of it. I would be scared to have a conversation w/ me when I was that age.

A guy I went to high school with did this to his Celica. It was loud, but certainly not mean.

Yeah, I had a kid at work tell me that Grand Ams come stock with 350 hp. After me rolling with his comments from a few weeks back (telling me he had 486 hp with a supercharger in his Grand Am) I just had to let him know that it just isn't true. I don't think he believed me.

I'd have told him to drill holes in his skull to make his weight lighter and the car go faster....no wait...he would have prolly done that!

When i was 16 and i had my first 85 mustang gt,the a/c was not working and i decided to rip it out along with the power steering and smog pump and run a short belt,i gained a small amount of power and took weight off the front but it sucked,13 years later i look back and think what was i doing?but now you tell me the drill to the muffler story and i don't feel that bad.

Got to give it to the kid, drilling holes in the muffler will make it sound different.

Perhaps a race at a local auto x event or at the local 1/4 drag strip might be in order.

Ah, youth! I rember doing many dumb things to my cars in those days. On a positive note, the kids that spend time doing goofy stuff like that usualy grow up to be just like us big kids! We all have to start some where.

If he wants loud and mean, give him a link to NHRA.com and tell him to go to the next event.. maybe he'll put the drill down....

I wasn't bad. Mainly because I didn't talk about performance at all until I hit my 20's. Started out with two Grand Am's as my first cars and the second one was only good for beating civics.

I'm making sure if I ever have kids, that they get a rounded out education about what performance is, and what rice is. I should still have the RX-7 and some kind of Vette by then, so they can learn to appreciate fast and classy imports and domestics, vs the riced out civics and dodge neons I see EVERYWHERE out here.
