Mimicking a similar project in the UK, a US-based organization has launched FuelCard.org to help drivers save some cash on gas. The idea is seemingly simple: get a bunch of people together and give them a gas discount card, promise a popular, nationwide gas station chain that the group of people will only buy their gas, and the card holders in question get 10-20 cents off per gallon of gas. The site evidently started up last week, so we're not sure who the gas retailer will be, but if this program flies, it could be a great thing for many of us looking at $50+ a tank.
Somehow, I doubt the "single retailer" they chose will be Shell, Chevron, or any of that status. I also think they will need a much more impressive website before people trust them with their information.
It looks too grassroots to attract the large numbers of people required to be a good bargaining chip.
Well im not gonna worry about it for now as gas prices are going down everytime I drive by the station. I am currently down in Oklahoma City for job training and am enjoying $2.18 for regular in my Jeep and its still going down :-)
Just get a CITI Dividend platinum select card or other similar credit cards. I get 5% back up to $300 a year on gas, so if gas is $3 a gallon I get $.15 back and I can get gas anyplace I want. And yes, I pay it off in full ever month, so I never pay an interest and there is no annual fee.
Chevron just announced what may be the richest oil find in the US to date. Found in deep water off the Louisiana coast, the find is estimated at 50 billion barrels... this would reduce our dependency in foreign oil by 50 percent.
Just a heads up on gas futures.
Did a quick whois lookup ... not much info about the domain, except the creation, and end dates throw up a flag to me...

Why update for only 1 year if this is going to be a big national buyers club? Also, most legitimate companies pay for a little more bandwidth so somebody could actually see their site ...
I'm skeptical when there is not an address or any information on the website about who is actually behind it. I would not recommend giving out personal information to this site unless you want to risk getting spammed to death.
I hope it's just in it's begining stages. I signed up because if it does come together I want to be one of those saving .20 cents a gallon...
If I recall correctly its been in it's initial stages since about this time last year. The site generated a some media buzz shortly after the Katrina gasoline price shocks hit, then sort of faded into obscurity.

Interesting, I have been using it for a few years now and I did not get any notice of a change. If they change it there are other cash rewards cards out there for gas.
