manual shifting question
I find that when I get on my 98 coupe, I seem to have a little bit of trouble going from 3rd to 4th. It seems to grind just a little bit. I was wondering if a short shifter would solve my problem or at least be smoother. Any thoughts?

Not likely...Sounds like a syncro issue. I'd change the fluid. Oftentimes the shifting is improved with just that. Worked for me.

Yep-this is the best advice and certainly the least expensive first effort. You would be surprised at how often this solves the problem.

Syncros or maybe shift fork? In any event, try the easy stuff first and change the fluid.

changing fluids
Is changing the fluids easy, and what type of fluids should I use?
ie royal pruple or another synthetic?

Check your owners manual for the how-to. Any name-brand fluid will do.

Actually it depends on the year. I think older C5's had the paper blocking rings which could be damaged by synthetic fluid.

yup. change fluid first, as its the cheapest way to find out first. but a shifter will only make it worse i think.

Hope for the best but expect the worst. Hope that the fluid change works but be prepared for a new/rebuilt transmisson since it sounds like the previous owner bent the shift forks banging/speed shifting it.
