I have a 1999 C5...I recently had the alternator replaced. 82K miles on the car. This code keeps coming up on the dash but when the car was checked it does not store the code. Has anyone expereinced this..what should I do?
C5 elec system is very picky about alternators. Particularly on the older C5's I have always heard it was much better to have an alternator rebuilt rather than replaced.
I have an 04 coupe and every once in a while when I start it I will get the same message but it goes right away and the gauge usually reads 13.8 - 14.2 volts. The car is not driven daily and I have never had a problem.

I had repeated charge system fault messages on my 1999 C5 coupe (built 8/98) when it was new. The dealer technician was stumped and called Chevrolet Technical Assistance. He was instructed to check ground locations on and near the starter - one of the locations was a stud below the battery (easy to see). He found the nuts on the ground studs loose and slightly corroded. He cleaned the connections and tightened the nuts. That eliminated the messages. The technician surmised that the nuts were not tightened properly from the factory, as Technical Assistance immediately knew what the problem was.
