About a week ago I was involved in an accident in which I was not at fault and it turns out I got sandwiched between an SUV in the front and a sedan on the back. The front bumper was scuffed towards the top the hood cracked deeply in the front near the head light, stress cracked in the center and in the upper right corner, the back bumber was cracked under the left reverse light and so was the left reverse light. The rear quarter panel was also cracked about 1” near its highest point on the wheel well opening. Lastly the hatch compartment left floor removable door will not go in its opening because the body cracked in about 1”. The insurance ppl claim about 2 grand will take care of “repairs” . I want replacements, isn’t true that repairs to fiberglass and urethane cracks tend to resurface in a couple months after repairs? By the way this is a coupe c5. Any ideas or suggestions are helpful
I can't answer your question directly about fiberglass repairs, but that sounds awfully cheap for repairs of that magnitude. I would take the car to a reputable body shop and get my own estimate. Sounds like the ins co. is about to screw you.
Use the "search" feature here to do "insurance" "Geico" "State Farm" "Farmers" etc. and any other searches you can think of -- lots of valuable information.
contact your body shop of choice (the best in town) and get an estimate in hand -- do this first so that you have everything else to compare this to........

Yes, that does sound rather low for repairing that damage. A good, trusted body shop should be able to give you a more realistic estimate - then the fun begins fighting it out with the insurance company. Best of luck.
Yeap I’ll do my research, accident report doesn’t come out for another 3 weeks. That’s our fine Miami dade police dept. Tax dollars at work. So that gives me some time to research and complain

Repairing a urethane crack is not a recommended procedure.
However, a crack in an SMC (fiberglass) panel can be repaired. That said, I would certainly want a new panel from my insurance company. If they force you to accept a repair in lieu of a new part, make sure you get something from the insurance company in writing regarding the guaranteed longevity of the repair and what they'll do if any issues/ghosting etc appears down the road. That piece of paper may prove to be very important 2 or 3 years from now. Tell your insurance company you aren't willing to accept just the warranty from the body shop, you want their guarantee too.
I was rear ended last month. Geico gave me $5300 for replace the rear bumper that could have been easily fixed, 3 tail lights & exhaust system. The adjuster said "its a Corvette I would want NEW parts on my car". I Could have fixed the car for less then $1k but with $5k to spend I went with a Tiger Shark front & rear bumper, installed & painted with a Corsa Tiger Shark cat back!! You have a lot more damage then me. I would get some more estimates & talk to your Insurance Co.
Does anyone know of any body shop in the Miami / Miami beach area that I can take my car in so that all hidden damages can be assessed and have the car reassembled with its original parts back. Is this something anyone has done or recommends, the reason is I rather sell the car as is than have to deal with repairs and body shops. You think the dealer will do it.
It may be a hassle, but I'm willing to bet you'd be much better off repairing the car first and THEN selling it if you still no longer want it. The body shop can only give you an ESTIMATE of what it would cost... and the insurance company should know this and be willing to fork out more $$$ in case hidden problems pop up. A person buying a wrecked car has no clue what could pop up and therefore would be unwilling to shell out the money for the full car value minus estimated repair costs and take the risk of finding out there were more problems than anticipated.
BTW I had my front bumper replaced and it cost $800, so yes $2k is a WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE bit low.

This is one reason I got out of Miami(12 years), noone knows how to drive! I got "tapped" by a F 250, who was trying to back up and touched my front bumper, which left a small mark. His Geico adjuster gave me $735 for it! I say if you're gonna get hit, hopefully he has Geico for insurance!
