I have read on the forum that there really is no performance gain with an x pipe. I had Borla Stingers installed at Carlisle, then had the x pipe installed yesterday. It mellows the sound out. It is still louder than stock. It is hard to explain but I love the way it sounds now.

Any performance gains are not worth mentioning. Most people who get an x-pipe get it to eliminate decel pop and gurgle. I happened to like that sound but I got an x-pipe to get rid of the "metallic jungle" that I noticed at idle and slight acceleration after installing my GHL Bullets. I still get a little decel gurgle. Another benefit was that the "motorboat" idle was eliminated.

Why do long tube header packages come with x-pipes?

They also come with hi-flow cats.

The X-pipe will smooth the flow of exhaust and perhaps deepen the sound from the exhaust, but not buy a whole lot. And not much benefit in terms of performance. I put one on mine simply because I was having a lot of resonance in 6th gear going down the highway (about 1500-1600 rpm) and also was having a lot of popping when letting off the gas. The X-pipe solved both problems.
