I just noticed today that someone must have hit my door a tiny bit and i have a tiny chip in the paint. It is very very small but it is still chiipped down to the metal. I was thinking there must be a way to just get some touch up paint to make sure it doesnt spread and to make it look nicer. It is very very small so i dont feel like i need to take it in. Does anyone know of the process for me to fix this? I need to know EXACTLY what to buy and do. If you could outline the process or point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it. Thanks guys!
I guess touchup paint of some sort would work. Me personally if its really tiny I'll let it go till I get another one or if its big just get the panel repainted. Sadly there is no real way to avoid those chips just get them redone every couple of years to keep it looking new. I plan on repainting my nose next year (It doesn't look bad at all but its got small chips as does one of my headlight covers and hood.) Think of it as a cost of ownership. Which reminds me I need to replace my drivers side BSM!
Chevrolet makes the perfect touch up kit. Got mine from Fichtner chevrolet. It has this really great pinpoint sanding brush (fiberglass threads), applicators, fine sandpaper and rubbing compound. All you need to fix a door chip like a pro. (you do need to buy the appropriate touch up paint at the same time....)
The instructions in the kit will walk you through it all.
Go the the car care section on this forum and do a search on paint chips. You'll see a post by VETFVER that lists detailed steps to repair the chip. I've followed this and it worked great for me. At least is passed the one foot test. (couldn't tell where the chip was unless I was with in a foot of the chip).
I also suggest the touch up paint that MidAmerica sells. If matched my Mill. Yellow very close. Good luck

Call Bob, parts mgr, at Fichtner's. They're a CF supporting vendor.
The kit is about $10.
