I believe the 2004 fuel system is different than previous years and if you are going to mod the car it may be more difficult to mod the fuel system.
Same thing goes for the late 03s, which is what I have. I ran into a fuel problem at only 460rwhp, now I'm running a KB BAP. The 04s have the C6 fuel system which has intank pumps, the pre 04s the pump is outside behind the rear wheel. If you don't plan on going over 600rwhp 03-04s will be just fine with a BAP.

The FFS in-tank fuel pump was a running '03 change around Nov '02. I have a Dec build, with FFS (code on the glove box door)
BTW ... no VIN to reference, and no code indicator, but best informed knowledge is that steel tranny forks were introduced on the '03's some time in Feb '03 (so I missed that one)
I'm picking up my 02 z06 tomorrow night and i am actually a lil intimidated by the power in this car. we'll see what happens. kinda like going on a real roller coaster for the first time
I have a 04 Z16 Comm Edition and all it has required in the column lock issue. I have @ 5,000 miles on it. I love it, just wish the GY F1 tires were NOT so noisey on certain highways. That's not the car's fault though. Otherwise........it has been good to me.
Replace them with Michelin PS2's once they wear out.
If you're planning on leaving it stock, any late '03-'04 will be about the same*. The '04 has slightly better shocks. If your gonna throw a bunch of mods on it, I wouldn't hesitate to get any of the 4 years.
* the steel shift forks would be an improvement.
The only problem on my 04 was a couple of leaking diff's fixed under warrenty, and I drive it like I stole it
Mike
Don't worry Vic...in 2 weeks all we'll be hearing from you is "how do I add some more power to this bad boy"?
