Default FOD Damage

FOD: Foreign Object and Debris

Well it has happen! I was driving along the freeway, changed lanes and in front of me was a 4 foot piece (and about 4 inches wide) of thin metal that looked like a like a cork screw in front of me. I had cars to the side and behind me... no place to go so I had to take it down the center. Below is what I received ... The dam looks like it may be out of place, have not pulled on it or crawled under the car yet. The front end is what burns me up...

So what am I looking at to repair it. Can it be repaired or not? I know that with enough money (like replacing the front end) it can, but can it be filled and touched up?

I have always hated working traffic and writing tickets in my job... especially now that I am a Supervisor… always been a big “warning guy” unless it was a very serious and/or hazardous violation… but I think that if I see anyone “loosing their load” (AKA dropping stuff off their vehicle) in front of me – zero tolerance.

Here is the damage

OK, one more time .. BlackZ06 to the rescue !! LOL

The only piece that appears to be damaged is the Front right spoiler.

GM part number is 10419313

go to:

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/

and do a search on that part number ... it is like $8.00 (plus shipping)

Hope this helps ... and now I can tear up the streets of Fort Worth ... right ???

Sorry, just realized that the front bumper also looks like it sustained damage ... from what I know that's a body shop item.

Here in California, we have to put up with roads that the Calif. DOT maintain to about the same standard as Botswana has for their freeways. I have 3 cars and all have front end damage from chunks of asphalt and concrete that have been torn from the road and then flung by another vehicle into mine. And then there's the stuff dropped on the roads ... I came over a rise in the freeway a couple of months ago and there was an exhaust manifold sitting in the middle of the lane ... and I had no place to go to avoid it .... ask me how I know the part number for the front spoiler .....

Man, that sucks but most of us have been there! One evening last week, while driving home after class I was trapped on both sides and was forced to hit tire tread from a semi. It didn't do any paint damage, but it still angers me that debri like that is left sitting in the roadway.

Hopefully, you have comprehensive insurance with a low deductible. I hit a contractor size paint bucket that blew across the highway just as I got to it. Hit it at 65 mph. The thing went under the fascia and then flew forward and up far enough that the car hit it again on the upper part of the fascia before it shot up and over the car. Drove straight to the State Farm Adjuster's office and they looked at it and approved complete replacement of the fascia since it was ripped underneath. Total cost of the repair $1500 of which I had to pay the $200 deductible.

I would say that yes, the front fascia can be repaired by a good body shop. And it does look like the center air dam is a little off. Not to hard to replace it and it is relatively inexpensive.

About 1000 bucks will get the front end repainted It happens if you are on the road enough. Down here it's the rock haulers showering the road with rocks every time they hit a bump

We need more LEO like you I never get a warning maybe it's my tag?

Air Force guys should get this:

Let's make the Highway Patrol start doing something other than issue speeding tickets: Mandatory FOD Walks on a daily basis.

Man....thats one of my fears is hitting something....especially early morning dusk when you cant see very well.....course here in north alabama your more likely to hit a possum or coon.....dodged 2 of them already dead on the road this morning.....luckily they were "flat" enough to straddle without scooping them up in the dam....

atilla...

Sorry about your bad luck but seeing you use FOD reminds me of all the FOD walk downs in the morning to prevent A/C engines from injesting garbage and then there was the take off in Midway Island where we ate 2 Gooney birds and lost 2 engines on one side!!!!!!!!! Thank God for the talent of Naval Aviators!!!! And you Air Farce guys arent to bad either unless its raining out!!
