Default CLB, H wiring harness problems etc (long)

I have a 2001 mn6 coupe. I had the car into the dealer for a speaker test on the stereo. While it was in they went ahead and did the recall work on my steering column. That was four months ago. Two weeks ago I got the "pull key wait 10 seconds". I pulled the key and then got "service steering column". The car starts and runs fine except when I give it gas. It shuts down at that point. I ordered the CLB and installed it. That didn't work either. I get the same messages and the same results. I read on here that the problem now lies in the H wiring harness. Of course I don't have the old harness to reinstall and then reinstall the CLB. Now WTF do I do? Can the dealer really fix this problem? Do I have to buy a new H harness or should the dealer have to buy it? I wouldn't have a clue as to how to install the H harness. I am assuming the dealer will have to pay for the tow etc. I am fine having the H harness replaced and then my CLB. How hard and expensive is it to replace etc. I would really appreciate any feedback that I can get. I am at my wits end. I know there are others who have been down this road. Thanks in advance!!

Being a six gear, they probably messed with the computer program when they did your recall.......I have an A4 so am not well versed at all on what they alter in the computer on six speeds. That program may have to be removed??

I love listening to the experts respond to these scenarios. Had a similar experience with my 98 mn6.

OK, if I understand what has happened you had the recall done, it caused you more problems so you took out the harness and installed a CLB - now you still have the same problem again, but you threw away the harness they had put in? Did I get that part right?

If the dealer that did the work is not willing to replace the harness at no charge, you could always order a replacement from Fred Beans. I have heard of some compatibility problems with the CLB and the latest version of the harness, so beware of that. I would talk to the dealer - they know the early version of the harness were bad, and would (hopefully) be willing to pay for the updated version. I am confused on why you're getting the messages though - especially if you took out the harness...

Thanks ptd. I had the recall done four months ago. The car just started with pull key the wait 10 seconds, then service column lock. I am assuming that the dealer replaced the harness but am not sure but that seems to be what people say how the repair is performed. I tried the CLB but continue to get the same messages and the car quits when I give it gas.

Wasn't that part of the recall...that the dealer reprogrammed the PCM to cut the gas as a theft deterrent?

Dealer work is guaranteed for at least 12 months 12K miles if it goes past the end of the original warranty period.
