Default Polished magnesiums

Has anyone here stripped and polished their magnesiums or know of a vendor that does this? Can any body shop do this?

I saw a set a few years ago and they looked great!

Thanks for any guidance!

Marc

I was checking into this a few years ago....but, decided not to do it. Several people have tried...but, none that I know of were successful in the long run. I saw pictures that looked great. But, the wheels required weekly polishing. I saw a set in person that looked terrible! Magnesium corrodes very quickly and if it isn’t powder coated will start looking like crud within days. I also talked to a few powder coat shops…but, none of them would touch the job. They said that they would not put magnesium into their ovens because of the fire danger. I hope you have better luck then I did. If you can keep them from corroding they will look great!

Hi, Charley!

The mags do look great polished. I think a clear coat (paint) would solve the corrosion problem on the mag wheels. Bare aluminum also corrodes over time, but my polished Z06 wheels are clear coated, and it hasn't been a problem over the three years I've had them.

Thanks for the picture. That is the same pic I saw years ago. I wish I could talk to the guy that did this. I wonder if a local body shop could strip/polish and then clear coat them???

They obviously they will shine it's keeping them that way though. Never heard a follow-up story to see how they held up. Any polishing shop could do this...then a clearcoat, but will the mags still fade/dull
