I'm gonna get new rims & tires next week on my 99 & was wondering about the batteries for the sensors, are they like a watch battery or what ? Where do you get em ? Thougt I'd replace em next week. I heard they only last about 7 years, so the are due to replace.
There are 2 versions of the C5 tire pressure sensors, one for model years 1997 through 2000 and the other for model years 2001 through 2004. For both versions, the batteries are sealed inside the case and were not designed to be replaced. However, a few members have replaced the batteries in the '97-'00 version of the sensors with some limited success (see link below). Also, Nericreations (www.nericreations.com) will rebuild the earlier version of sensors like yours.
As for the newer version sensors, I don't know if anyone has had any success yet replacing the batteries or rebuilding these. Also, the two versions of sensors are not interchangeable and you must use the correct version for your model year.
Also on another note, new tire pressure sensors are not cheap and the earler version are more expensive than the later. However, Fred Beans, a Forum supporting vendor, generally will have some of the better prices on new tire pressure sensors.
