Default Low oil question

I have an 01 Z06, just curious if it runs low on oil will the DIC tell me so?

I know how to check the oil with the dipstick. That wasn't what I was asking. But thanks for attempting to help me

Yes, it will. And it'll keep telling you until you add more. Happened to me last week.

Well I guess my 01 doesnt really burn much oil b/c I go like 4k miles between changes (only had 1 change so far and do for 2nd another 1500 miles) and so far its never come on.

PS-it autmatically comes on and takes over display right? meaning regardless of what you have on display it will pop up, right? You don't have to actually scroll to a specific function to see it do you?

Yep. It'll just pop onto the display and stay there until you hit reset. Then it'll come on again whenever you start your car again until you add more oil.

I think it would have to be really low before it warns you. I think most of the guys around here would eject you from the Corvette community if you routinely waited for that light to check your oil
And yes, the warning should over-ride whatever is in on the DIC.

Well I would think GM would set it to read at a point where it starts to become a possible hazard and no lower than that. They certainly don't want to have to replace engines under warranty.

Thats what I figured, Thanks for confirming. Unless the DIC is dysfunctional than it will most certainly let you know when oil needs to be added.

It was a legitimate question and worth asking. It is nice to know it will tell you when you are a quart low.
