Default Tire sensor warning

About 4-6 weeks ago I put on after market wheels with out tire sensors on my 2001. I have never had a warning come on before and sunday it came on several times. I read on here before that 2001's would not have this problem. What would make it suddenly start to give me a warning. If I hit reset or push any other gauge it will go away for awhile.

All the C5s will give you a warning if the sensors are not installed on the car. I believe it is the '01 and newer that you can have the TPS turned off by changing some computer settings.

You either misread what was said or you got bad information; the car will give you the warning, as you put it, you can clear it with the reset, but it will come back. You can have the TPS sensing deactivated with the use of a Tech II (only for '01 + models).

Why did it take 4-6 weeks for me to get the first warning. That does not make sense to me.

Default TPS Warning

Don't know why a few weeks before warning. I don't have sensors on my '99. Carry a repair kit. Warning comes up once and a while, stays for a few starts, then doesn't occur for a while. I can't program the TPS warning out. Understand that 2001 and newer Corvettes can have the warning programmed out. I just hit the reset button. I'd get the programming change done.

How can I program this to not come up. I asked my local dealership
They said it was a federal crime to mess with it.

This tells you how to enable it; I would ASSUME it would work in reverse.

BTW, I printed this out and took it to my friendly local dealer. The mechanic hooked up the Tech II to the OBD port under the driver's side dash. Walked him through each step and less than 5 minutes later, I had the system activated on my Z. Good luck.

From what I understand, is that in a few years, per recent enacted federal mandate, any vehicle sold in the USA must have active TPS/TPMS...no exceptions. I've also heard that this will eventually go into effect for motorcycles as well.

I dont have the tech 2. So were can I go to get this done. It does not make sense to me, if there is no tire sensors why do you still have to have the warning on. Total bs.

Not surprising you don't have a Tech II - it is around $1500-$2000. You are just going to have to pick up the phone and find a dealer or shop that has one and is willing to do this procedure. I don't know where you live in Indiana, but there are tuners in the NE part of the state (DTE, Lingenfelter come to mind) who could probably help you out. I suspect the dealer you talked to just doesn't want to be bothered, and so he gave you a line of

If this is too much work for you, then put the TPS back in the wheels. Frankly, given the cost of these tires and rims, I think it is a good thing to have.

Mine does the same thing. Kind of like when you screw up in a relationship, you have to hear about it once and a while!
