Lighting experts...I have a question.
I recently blacked out my backup lenses. I believe the stock backup bulbs are 10 or 20 watts. If I switch to 50 watt bulbs to get more light, will the new bulbs overload the wiring or the circuit?
That is like putting a 1000 watt bulb in a 100 watt lamp. BAD IDEA...Surely blow a fuse at the least. It could fry your whole computer too...
My advice....Dont do it.

Did you mean WATT? LOL!
That's what I thought. I wanted to be sure. I looked at a bulb website the other day and of course they made it sound like you could easily switch them out.
If you're talking about the 50 watt halogen light, it's a bad BAD idea. I tried it in another car, and the bulb itself started burning, and started browning the lamp as well. On webbikeworld.com they tried it too, with the same experience. It sucks anyway, not much brighter, if brighter at all, than the stock bulbs.
my suggestion to you is to replace the standard bulbs with LED bulbs. visit www.superbrightleds.com they have a wide selection of bulbs. personally, i'd reccomend either the tower style bulbs or the ones with radically mounded LEDs. the tower bulbs will produce a wider beam...otherwise you'll just get a red dot in the middle of your lens.
these LED bulbs are very bright compared to regular filimant bulbs and rarely burn out. They also run very cool and use hardly any current.
because the LEDs use less amperage to drive they may cause your turn signals to double flash. there are special resistors avalible that you can wire in parallel which will keep your turn signals flashing normally.
please post pics if you choose this route, i'm curious what the LEDs will look like with smoked lenses.

he's talking about his reverse light lense bulbs so there will be no issues with fast blinkers.
as stated above, the LED bulbs work nicely. here are some pics of my car with them.
my apologies, i thought you were referring to turn signals. I had the 50Watt halogen bulbs installed on my silverado, it didn't blow any fuses but there wasn't much of a difference in light output. It ended up being a $15 lesson learned.
