Steel frames (except for the Z, which are aluminum and some other exotica); composite bodies. GM left fiberglass behind some years ago for the Corvette.

The body is sheet-molded compound plastic, like the Saturn. Very durable and light. Good stuff!

Thanks again, back in the day we always worried about stress cracks,
so based on what you said that should be IN the past.
Again, Thanks.

Thanks Guys... But leads to the next question, who can fix the body panels if damaged? or do you replace the whole panel (s)?

Yes, you should. They will never be as strong as when new.

My car got hit a year ago and I got a new hood, quarter panel, etc. I'm betting there's not much repairing--just replacing.

It's still fiberglass, e-glass, not even s-glass, just made differently and with a different resin. I believe they also use a special continous strand layer on the outside to get a smoother finish. It's called sheet molded compound because they maked preimpregnated sheets of fiberglass then store them chilled and wet to use later. At a later time they cut them into the right shapes, stick them into a mold and bake it.

Uh... NO. I assume by Z you mean Z06, if so it's frame is made of the same old plane Jane steel as it's C5 brethren. Perhaps you are thinking of the titanium exhaust on the Z06?
