I did a search of exhaust questions but did not find the answer I am looking for.
I am looking for a fairly loud exhaust for an '04 A4 vert. All the C5 kits are $700 and up. I do not want to spend that much. I want to spend $400 or less.
I have a custom 1 chamber Flowmaster set up on my C6, labor and parts cost me $365. Since the C5 and C6 factory exhaust set ups are different, I am wondering if anyone else has something similar on their C5.
This is what I have on my C6 and would like to install on the C5. With the C5's sideways mounted exhaust and inlet/outlet on the same end of the muffler, I am not sure if it can be done. Anyone have anything other than a C5 specific kit?
I have done something similar to what you want to do.The 1 chamber flowmasters are for racecars that require mufflers. These sound terrible on a street car.I had some 2 chamber flowmasters (normal style muffler offset inlet centre outlet)custom installed on my C5(very tight tolerences)and now my car sounds amazing. It sounds exotic at idle to 3000rpm and sounds like an 5.0 from 3 -6000rpm.Minimal drone as well.Couldn't be happier.JER
I wanted a more throaty sound on my 95 vert and didn,t want to play the outrageous price for kits, so I checked around with the local corvette club and found that if you just cut off the rear mufflers and replace them with splitter tips you will recieve the wanted sound. I purchased two magnaflow splitters over the internet and took them to a local cheap muffler shop and had them cut off my mufflers and put on the stainless steel splitteters. They did it for $100 and the splitters were around $60 or $65. The sound is perfect, the way a corvette should sound, and it has added a little more horsepower to it also. I can send pics of mine if you want, and I also have a small video on what it sounds like. E mail me at groverguy@kc.rr.com and I will send you the pics of it, and also the sound clip.

If you want to go inexpensive on the parts - at least buy a quality system designed for a C5, used. Don't waste your time or money trying to get some P.O.S. to fit or sound okay.
Another great alternative is a used Z06 Ti setup....better sound, perfect fit and not so loud that your wife will murder you while you sleep for ruining her car!
