I would like to have XM Radio in my 2002 Conv. Is therte some adapter or upgrade available? It's got the 10 disc cd Bose deal which I would hate to toss. It's only got 13k miles so my 1st. choice would be to modify the radio or switch it for a later vette stock model. Any help is appreciated. Scott BTW...any vendor suggestions would also help.
Get an XM Commander, it will connect to the stock radio without modifications, mount it where the ashtray was and then when you park the car somewhere just flip the door down and it can't be seen......
I bought another car adapter for my MYFI. I put it in the "glove box" where your right elbos rests. It has the power adapter in there. I wired the antenna with velcro to the little black flip up cover 4 inches behind your left ear.
Obviously my system is not hard in the car, but it works for me
Sirius is the way to go. Better programming, better music.
Howard and Bubba the Love Sponge. What more could you want?
This is available from crutchfield for only $169.00
and no commercials on the music channels. I'm ripping out my commander and installing Sirrius when I re-do my audio system. That Sirrius is a good little set up. The problem was when I installed my XM Commander in 04 after I got the car, Sirrius was still lagging behind in the hardware department. Not any more! I'd recommend that set up, works just like the XM Commander.

Hi,
My wife's Denali has XM and I can add another for half price on the monthly bill. I have been holding off beacuse I do not want to change the look of the cockpit. Your solution is great. Could you tell me:
1) Where you got the Commander?
2) Who installed it?
3) How do you get the ashtray out?

I have an '04 and faced the same issue. I installed a Pioneer (which is ready to go for Sirus Radio or you can buy an adapter and it goes to XM- I have the XM since I have it in two other cars). It fits perfectly; the faceplate is removable or if you choose when the ignition is off it flips over and shows a blank. It also comes with a plug in which to hook up an IPOD or other MP3 player. I had the plug run to the center compartment.
Thanks to everyone who responded!! Once you have SAT. type radio you are never going to enjoy "old style" radio again. Who sells these products? The guy at BEST BUY acted like he had never heard of these devices. Scott
Oh believe me, Best Buy, Circut City, they all sell them. Just need to find one of those morons that know's what he's talking about Check out Crutchfield or XM's websites, they'll have all the hardware also.
From what I've seen Best Buy doesnt carry them and only a few Circuit City stores do. Go with Crutchfield. Their service ppl will walk you thru the install. (if you need)
Nice thing about a Vette is you can mount the antenna inside the rear bumper and not on the outside of the car. If you have the 12 disc changer in the back you can plug into it. Power, ground, line cables are all there.
I bought the XM Roady at Wally World several months ago for $50,comes with a mount that will clip to your vent above the radio, can be moved to different vehicles, works great!

How did it connect to the stock radio? Can you still use the cd changer?

I bought the Commander from a member of this Forum and had it installed by a local radio installer. The ashtray just pulls out of it's little cubbyhole.
Best channel on XM is 164 - old time radio dramas. Stuff like The Whistler, Hermit's Cave, Lone Ranger, Dragnet, Johnnie Dollar and many more. They also run old comedies on this channel - Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Red Skelton etc. I don't think Sirius offers this type of programming.

You can mount the antenna center dash forward adjacent to the front windshied, its a small "pod" that is barely noticable and the reception is great!
Best buy in my area has the XM commander, actually they always have alot of XM radios in stock!
the Sirius radios are always gone or there's very few left.
If you go Sirius, get the Starmate replay, it's a one piece radio, and it fits behind the ashtray door with no problems.
