Help! Dead Z06: Code B2723 - PASS-Key Detection Circuit

A bunch of us here had our Corvettes at a small gathering Tuesday evening and when it was all over, one of the C5's, a 2003 Z06 was dead.
The car will not start. It has a good battery. We thought that was the culprit since it had it's OEM AC in, so we quickly ran to the AutoZone and got him a Red Top.......... Still no go.
So we read the codes and get: B2723 - PASS-Key Detection Circuit
OK, so I am thinking bad key... We drive him home, get another key for the car. Still NO GO.
Apparently the key can not be read somewhere in the car, I imagine the ignition switch is not reading the chip in the key.
We call a towing service and tell them they must send A) a flat bed and B) a good driver. Well we got one, a nice flat bed...
To add to this problem, the front wheels are slightly cocked so the car wants to turn slightly left as you roll it. The column is locked and the car will no start. With the wheels locked and the car wanting to turn left, the driver said he couldn't do it. Not very imaginative or preparred for the job I said. Anyway he left, the car this morning is still right where it happened last night and we will try again to get it to the dealer.
ALSO, it is NOT the dreaded SERVICE COLUMN LOCK problem. That I know......
Has anyone had this problem and know a way out. Or can you tell us what had to be done to fix the problem>
Thanks in advance fo rany help you guys can supply.

We finally got a flatbed guy this morning with some brains and have gotten the car to our trusted GM Tech.
