Default coolant temp rising?

When I got my Z06, I had the display always displying the coolant temp.
it was always 219-217 on the highway. I was in traffic at a stand still once and it creeped up to 225 in the summer.

now it is 70 degrees here, I have coolant temps of 228 when cruising. I got on the freeway and nailed it, the temps dropped to 212. once I got back to cruising speed 70-80mph it sat at 228.

also the other night it was 68 out, and just sitting at a light I had the 335 on the coolant temp.

What is causing this?

I looked up in the shroud, nothing in there at all.
I am wondering if the fan is going out, but on the highway I suspect my coolant temps would be lower?

What about the coolant in there? if water wetter or something was added, could it have worn off?

BTW, I noticed this when as my oil pressure sensor broke and my pressure is now pegged at 80 psi. DIC shows 120 psi. looking forward to fixing that.

Based upon what my 2003 z06 temps run, yours seem very high.

See my post today- "Overheat"

I have been running teh search engine all morning.

Looks like I go home and pull the radiator cover off and see if any crap is up in there.

next is a fan check.

Check that the foam surround on the shroud is still in place. If it has dislodged or fallen out, a major portion of the air will flow around the condenser and radiator, rather than through them... thus causing higher temps.

Here's something to try, I did this last weekend when I had her jacked up to do an oil change. Take some compressed air & start blowing from the back in the engine bay(through the shrouds around the fans). I had so much small bits of dirt & grass & stuff come out, it was amazing(& my car only has 12k mi.). I haven't seen if the temps have come down yet, but I know that my car is a little lighter now at least.

I think this sat or sunday I will attack this issue.

I remember pulling my C4 rad out and shooting air and water though it and getting a big pile of sand out of it.

my driveway is currently covered with some really small flower like stuff falling out of my tree (I dont know what it is). the driveway from a short distance looks like someone painted it a yellow/green color. I am going to guess it is stuck in the radiator, or at least hope that is all it is. althought the condencer looks brand new, and not a single one of those things are up in there.

If the foam is broken down or missing, will some home depot foam work? I was thinking the tubes of foam they have to insulate pipes?

I could not take anymore last night, I removed the radiator cover and it actually looked pretty clean. I grabbed the hose and shot water though the rad and the condencer. I put my hand down there and pulled out the leaves and stems that were in it. I spent about 1.5 hour out there. The vararam was not allowing me full access to the front of the ac condencer.

Anyhow, on my drive to work today, no change. on the freeway in 6th at 70, 234* when I go down hill and let off, 217*
at 50 in 5th, 228*
It is 85* today.

I listened last night and both fans work.

what happens with the water pumps in the LS6? can it half work?

Those are abnormal temps at cruise. Should be 194. Anyone with a Service Manual should be able to help you walk down the diagnosis tree. I sold mine, after selling my C5Z.

Engine temp 235 deg when ambient is 80F?
