Default Z06 shifter

I have the B&M ripper shifter and Im tired of it being to stiff and hard to throw sometimes. Is the 06 Z06 shifter just as short of a throw as the B&M but have a smoother feel to it, thanks

Sorry can't compare to the B&M, but to me it's head & shoulders above the stock shifter.

Easy throw, but not quite as short of throw.

I removed the B&M Ripper shifter that came with my car after about 2 weeks. I installed the C6 Z06 shifter. New shifter has a longer throw, which feels like a truck and it's not as precise. Now that I have gotten used to it, I love it and wouldn't go back.

Longer throw than the B&M; to me it's the perfect balance between length and shifting ease.

Pictures I've seen of the C6 ZO6 shifter look as if it's not threaded to accept conventional aftermarket *****. Is this true? If so, are you stuck with the factory ****?

It's not threaded. It has a tapped hole in the side for a bolt that is passed thru the **** and into the shifter itself. I'm sure there are C6 replacement *****, but they would be specific to the C6 application rather than the C5 shifter.

Could you take a pic of your new C6Z shifter again on a side angle like that..... With it in 1st, and another pic in 2nd (Taken at a side angle shot like your pics above) ? Will help to give me an idea of the throw length.

Thanks !

I've had several different shifters on my 2004 coupe. Here's some dimensions for the 1st to 2nd gear stroke (approximate but very close):
Stock C5 -- 5.2"
1" shortened C5 -- 4.5"
Stock C6 -- 4.5"
1-1/4" shortened C6 -- 3.9"
B&M 45044 -- 2.9"

I have threaded the shortened C6 shifter with a 9/16-18 die and added a 2.0" round shift ****. I prefer that arrangement to any of the others as it has a noticeably shorter stroke than stock, but still shifts very smoothly with little increase in effort and no increase in noise.

Hope this helps you make a decision. -Ernie

I had mine installed yesterday. Wow, a really nice change for the stock C5

You could also consider an MTI Six Shooter.

Short throws, not stiff at all and best of all, no slop.

Guys:

I am trying to get some facts together in a thread about different shifters installed in a C5...

Please take a look at this if you have any other shifter than stock C5. I would love your input.

Thanks

I have a 03 coupe and would like to change the shifter to the 06 Z06 shifter. What do I need other than the shifter itself and the ****. Do I need to replace the boot or any gaskets or other parts?

I ordered my shifter from Fred Beans. It came with the entire shifter assembly so I completely removed the old assembly and dropped in the new one. There are 3 torx screws that must be removed in order to do this. Can't remember what size. I'm sure others know. If I did it over again, I'm not sure if I would remove the whole assembly or not. Seems like it would be easy to reinstall it in the wrong position, but mine is working great. Good luck if you decide to change it out, it's well worth it in my opinion, and let me know if you have any questions.
Oh, I did get the shorter shift boot from Vette Essentials. Fits great, smells goood, and looks They make a boot specifically for the C5 to C6 application.

i to have had a stiff shifter so much so that i broke a carrier bolt and came home in third.turns out that the factory grease on the shift rod (the deally bob that the shifter fits in to)was stiff even sticky. so disacembled cleaned regreased with black lithoum grease lined her up and with the same b&m now is 1 finger
shift what a differance.
