fairly new here so sorry for any stupid questions. have had my 02 z06 for about 3 weeks now and i hate the stock shifter. have read many threads abouts various shifters and lately about the c6 z06 shifter on the c5's. now i would like for you all to compare the c6 zo6 shifter to a hurst.
I just went from a B&M shifter to the c6 zo6 shifter and love the change. The ripper was short but a little to notchy for me, I guess if I tracked the car all of the time then it would be good but it was just too stiff and very noisy. The c6 shifter is stock feel with a little shorter throw. If you are expecting a huge difference than it is not it but it works great for daily driving. If you do a search this has been discussed alot and there is many different opinions when it comes to shifters. Good luck.
I had a hurst in and could not get rid of the rattle....Replaced it with a Breathless Performance shifter and love it! It is stiff into 5th and 6th, but otherwise a great precise shifter....
I understand how you feel because I had similiar feelings after a few weeks of ownership several years ago. Here is a non traditional answer, but one for consideration. Confirm a few driver possible issues first. Don't squeeze the shifter, but keep a relaxed grip. Pull back on the shifter from 1 to 2with a few fingers instead of the entire hand. Push up from 2 to 3 with the heel of your palm with a slight pause for the synchros to engage. A relaxed hand technique along with a little more throttle to get rid of the skip shift has increased my driving pleasure of the OEM equipment. Hope this helps and have a great day driving!
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I think the biggest problem with the C5Z is with the shift **** itself. I switched to an MGW Gripper ****, and I really don't mind the shifter now. It's an even more affordable alternative for you to try...and you can always upgrade the shifter itself later if you want. Good luck!
i had the Hurst originally, and although i loved the throw on it, it made too much noise overall and it rattled my shift **** at wide open throttle (i have the MGW ****)
i ended up trying the B&M and i like it better overall...its not as notchy as the hurst, it doesnt rattle at all either
