Default Eye on a nice C5

Before I drive 200 miles to view a C5 that looks like it is a great buy, can anyone tell me how I can obtain the VIN & hence all the details of the car's history, I have the engine number.
Also the seller says he ordered the car as a 2002 model but collected it from the Florida dealer Oct/Nov 2001, does this sound right?
The car seems an excellent buy, but a little more info would be useful.
Many thanks.

Why not just ask the seller for the VIN....

I agree. The seller shouldn't have a problem telling you what the VIN is. Also ask the seller where he has his maintenance done. I purchased mine from a private owner who put 5,600 miles on it. He used the local dealer for any maintenance. When I went to the dealer, they pulled up the record on the vehicle. Only an oil change and the repair of a broken drivers side seat lever were recorded. Maybe you could use a local dealer to pull that up - they should be in the same system???? If you post the VIN, I've seen where guys in this forum can locate all kinds of information on the vehicle. A couple other suggestions:
1 - Where is the car (where are you). Maybe a local member can look at it for you.
2 - As far as a 2002 purchased in late 2001. Sure, the 2007 Vettes are for sale now and it's still only Sept.

I agree... get the vin. Oct/Nov 01 for an 02 car sounds perfectly legit. My 2000 was first registered in Nov 99. The 07 vettes are at the dealers now.

There are several members here that have the ability to look up service and origination history through the GM VIS. You will need the VIN and then ask Sponge Vette, ja03c5, or RichieRichZ06 to run it for you.

The more information that you can gather before you sign on the dotted line the fewer surprises there will be after the sale. I'm sure the seller is being honest, but be an informed consumer....

Thanks for the advice guys. The seller is travelling at the moment but will provide the VIN this evening when he gets home, didn't seem a problem at all.
Thanks also to my question regarding the model year etc, most helpful.
All the best
