Default PIAA Questions

I have the factory fogs on my 2000 Coupe and I was looking to buy and install teh 1100 x, but I know the Z06 guys have to do some splicing and was hoping for more of a plug and play install. Since I already have the factory fogs, is the install pretty straightforward or will I be splicing wires and changing switches? Also was looking to install the PIAA 9006 and 9005 bulbs in my headlamps, but have heard of some potential fitment issues with these bulbs. Can anyone clear this up for me or recommend a better set of replacement bulbs? Thanks.

Replacement Bulbs -
Consider the Silverstar from your local autoparts store or Wallyworld.
Direct fit with a noticeable improvement.
Some folks will install the High beam Silverstar in the low beam position. It takes a little modification to the bulb housing.
Also consider the Toshiba 9011 in place of the standard 9006.
Some modification to the bulb housing is needed but easily accomplished.

Here is the link on how to trim the bulb: http://shnu.us/HIR%20Trimming%20Stock.htm

PIAA 1100X -
The PIAA lights draw more current and require a heavier gauge wire harness, which I think is included in the kit. The standard fog light brackets will hold the PIAA lights. An included relay and fuse must be installed to trigger the lights.

The PIAA lights are a great addition. I am really glad I put them on my car.

HTH.

Edit - I just noticed it was my EDN buddy.
I'll be in EDN next weekend, but as usually will probably be pushed for time. I think I still have your number, and if it looks like I got a bit of time I'll give you a ring. I'll have the Vette this trip.

Was it relatively easy installing the 1100s or is there anyone that has some good instructions? Are the silverstars as good as the PIAAs for the headlamps? Thanks for the help.

It is somewhat a plug-n-play install. Yes, you have to splice one wire into the OEM wiring harness and use the PIAA supplied wiring harness, which is of higher grade to handle the wattage load of the superior PIAA lights. You already have the fog light switch installed. You can install the PIAA 1100x lamps onto the stock fog light bracket. Follow these easy instructions:

I believe that these are the same instructions that I used. It's really not that hard to do. They're substantially better than the stock units, and I'd highly recommend them.
