Just picked up a "Flank-drive" Snap-on socket for ~15.00. It looks like the ticket for sure. Also, Snap-on has a hard polymer lined socket specifically for lugs. I think it was around 28.00; certainly cheaper than vendors offering similar products marked up with Corvette tax. Plus, Snap-on quality cannot be beat.
Thanks for the information!!

Unfortunately for me, the hard polymer lined socket set you mentioned are the set I purchased as well from Snap-On. (They are not Snap-On, but carried by most dealers) I tested one on my 2000 hardtop and at 100 ft pounds it seemed that the liner was about to slip. When I removed it from the lug nut, pieces of the liner came out with it. I returned them, no problem, but unfortunately I don't believe they will hold up to the torque called for and what the instructions said they were good for.
I will continue to use my normal "flank-drive" sockets and wait for something better to come along. And yes they are the same sockets sold by Mid America. Good luck to those that purchased them, I'll keep my money.

Well don't that suck. I was just getting ready to email the Snap-on guy and have him pick one up for me. Glad to know they are not up to the task.
Thanks again!

I wasn't terribly impressed with them. The actual metal portion looks not much thicker than a SS exhaust pipe, however it's possible I got a bad set. Give them a try and let us know what you think. I'm sure others would like a second opinion. If you're not pleased I'm guessing your dealer will take them back no questions asked, mine did.

The solution is: I got a Blue Point AlS191 19mm steel/aluminum 6 point air tool rated socket from Snap-On couple of years back...don't see it on their site any longer.
The inner "liner" of the steel outer socket body is made of aluminum, stonger than plastic but a softer metal than steel...so it can never scratch, mar, or mess up the lug...ever
I have a set of aftermarket wheels, but the lugs that came with them are not up to my standards. After removing a couple of times they are starting to flake.
Who makes quality chrome lugs nuts? I would prefer made in the ol USA if possible.
Mc Gards are the best... I got a set of CCW's and went through 2 sets of after market lugs which were crap!( they actually stripped out) CCW replaced them for free with Mc Gards and all of my problems are gone

A quality chromed product or the stock Stainless Steel will serve you well...just have a quality lug remover (and torque wrench) as noted above to take them off and put them back on. And keep away from air guns...they will trash anything very quickly.
