650-hp boosted super-Vette is getting closer to reality.
From afar this Vette would appear to be just another Z06. Now rub your eyes and take a closer look, because these are the first spy shots of the highly anticipated, but yet unnamed super Corvette. The large hood bulge you see is rumored to be concealing a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, and packing upwards of 650 horsepower. This engine will likely use an integrated intake-manifold intercooler and should sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.4 seconds. And, with the addition of more carbon fiber in the body and expanded use of polycarbonates, this super Vette could weigh less than the current Z06.
GM’s Performance Center in Wixom, Michigan will likely produce the powerplant, but expect only about 1500–2000 copies annually. Initially called the Blue Devil, there has been much speculation in the past several months about the name for this super Z06. Recently we hear that GM has scrapped the Blue Devil name in favor of Corvette SS (we hope not), Z07, or even reviving the Stingray nameplate. Whatever the name may be, expect this beast to carry a sticker around the $100,000 mark, which is by far the cheapest way to get 650 hp in a production car.

It's nice to see that the majority appreciates my efforts. Thank you.
BTW Zilla, if it makes you feel more at ease, after initially posting this article, I asked Admin to move this thread to a section they might deem more appropriate. Like many others, as a C5 owner, I only frequent the C5 section for all of my Corvette info, yet at the same time, I also don't want to upset those who appear to become upset easily over trivial matters.
Its a bummer, I wish they hadn’t scrapped the blue devil name. I have a buddy who knows someone at Chevy and has had information on this project since before the new Z even same out. For those who haven’t read a full history of the Corvette, the "Blue devil" or "SS" project has been in the works since the C2 I believe. It will be the first time a Corvette has come from the Factory with a supercharger, or in other words, the first time the corvette wasn’t a front mounted motor, body on frame, Fiberglass V8 RWD. a few ideas have been thrown around during the production, considering switching to aluminum, having a Mid mounted motor, making awd, and even switching to a V6 . Glad some of those didn’t make it through. But when this car comes out, it will be a long lost, finally realized part of Corvette History, I’m following the project closely

I agree with Zilla - it is a Corvette, true - but this is called C5 General. It really isn't on topic here.
As far as the car, it's just another $100K car that I'll never own or be in a position to own - and for $100K - Chevrolet better figure out how to keep the roof laminate in place with something other than double stick tape that fails.

The blue devil designation was never intended for public release...it's a tribute to a guy's alma mater (DUKE BLUE DEVILS). I wasn't fond of the SS designation, but it's actually growing on me...though Z07 is okay as well...
Of course, I'd really be excited if they'd redesign a supervette to be a rear midengine...like some of the designs released in the 90's...
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
