Calipers ???
Question for you guys. I have a really annoying rattle/clanking. I think I located the noise. Maybe brake related. If i roll forward then back and lift off brake, I get a big clanging noise. Defintiely not normal. It is metal on metal. Could it be a caliper? Or even the trans? I hear it over bumps and when turning. Calipers have 60k miles on them. Sounds like driver rear. Thanks.

I don't think it would be the caliper. If it is metal on metal I would check the pads to see if they are grinding on the rotor and I would also check to make sure that the shock bolts have not come loose. Hope this helps some.

Open the brake caliper and check the pad spring and retaining clips. They can cause a chinking noise when the spring is loose. If everything is OK there then pull the center cap off the wheel and have a friend watch the axle shaft where it comes through the hub. Then move the car back and forth and when it makes the noise see if the friend saw the axle move inside the hub. When the axle is loose in the hub it will make a metallic chinking noise when the car is moved back and forth. Used to see this on C4s quite a bit.
