I've heard the left fuel pump whining on a number of C5's and can't remember if I've been in one without it (radio drowns it out maybe, or I'm on the other side of the car). Do they do it from new or does the pump just start getting noisy over time? Did Chevy ever improve the design or add more sound deadening over the C5 run? Anyone add some sound proofing themselves and gotten rid of it?
I would like to be educated on this before the day I get a C5, cause the car I was just working on had it and I don't want a car doing this. Ever since this 69 Firebird I had, had an electric pump on the tank and it was loud as hell.

Can't even here the pump at all! Although I might not let the pump whine defer me from buying a Nice Vette! IMHO! If the price is right and the car is unreal then go with the purchase and fix the whining later or have 'em take a little off for the fix!

I didn't vote because there wasn't an applicable choice for me. I can hear my fuel pump, at least I could for about the 1st month of driving it.
I guess I got use to it and now i only notice it when I 1st turn the key on. Then again, I guess it could be my B&B Bullets too! At any rate, it never bothered me.

The early C5s (97, 98) had a loud fuel pump. GM redesigned the pump to reduce the noise and owners of those cars could get them replaced under warranty. Some owners refused to have their pumps changed since they would never take their car to a dealer, others just never caught on. So subsequent owners have to pay for the redesigned pump or live with the noise. I had the pump in my 97 changed as soon as the new pumps were available.
I can hear my pump for a couple seconds when I first start the car and the system is being pressurized, but nothing after that. On the other hand my buddy ownes a '97 and his pump is loud as hell all the time...

Yup... that'd be me w/ the '97. It's definately audible, but once you get rolling, the Headers and B&B Bullets plus the OEM Run Crap tires make enough noise that you don't even hear it anymore... unless you come to a stop w/ your turn signal on... then it's like "whee, whoo, whee, wehoo" like a dang siren... lol
Honestly, it doesn't bother me... background noise... theres far more irritating things like interior rattles that get under my skin...
