Default Need Help!! Intake system CONFUSION

Hey guys,

Have been thinking about getting a new intake system, like the Blackwing. I have read all the posts about this. However today I talked to my good friend who is a mechanic and he said that it was not a good idea because it’s a “wet” type system. That he oil over time th filter oil tends to coat the MAF wire and throw off reading and inevitable ping in the engine. He said that I should look into buying a new version of the stock air system, like the z06 that allows more air flow then the 2000 version.

What do you guys think? Do owners of the blackwing, or any system, need to do maintenance on the MAF to keep the “oil” off?

Am very confused about this and would greatly appreciate some feedback.

Thanks

I would not worry about what your friend says! Only will you have a problem with the oil getting to the MAF is if you over oil the filter and really over oil it! A blackwing or a K&N FIPK or other brand will give you NOT problems but better performance and better breathing for your beast! The ZO6 filter is good but most people put a K&N filter in it for better flow too! GET THE PICTURE? Answer GET YOUR BLACKWING!

Go to the For Sale section and get a used one for less money too! Here's my K&N FIPK

A correctly ("lightly") oiled filter will not cause any MAF sensor problems.

The problems occur when you apply too much oil to the filter, and it migrates downstream and coats the sensing wires with oil.

You don't want to apply so much oil to the filter as to make it appear wet. A very light mist, just enough to make it tacky, is ideal.
