Default Help!

I just got back to Calgary with my new (used) 2003 after driving 1600 miles back from San Diego. I stopped at the car wash to clean it before going home to show the wife and couldn't get it re-started. The GM dealership is saying I need a new starter which will take until Tuesday and cost over $700.00 installed. This on a car with only 9000 miles.

What does everyone think about the cost of GM parts service, versus having it done at a regular garage with non-GM parts?

Thanks.

Did you try jump starting it. My money is on a bad battery and not the starter. Does it turn over or nothing at all? Only 9000 Miles and starter problem, I bet not. Good Luck and let us know the out come.

Old mechanic trick we used was (should still work even on a vette) turn on the headlights and try to start the car. If the head lights go dim and you hear a click, bad battery. Head lights stay lit and strong when turning over the car could be the starter.
Good luck

Nope. We tried the jump start and it wouldn't work. The dealer confirmed it is drawing too much power from the battery. I put in a brand new battery and it is already dead. Good news is the extended warranty can possibly be transferred to Canada. Hopefully they cover starters. I'll let you all know what happens.

Thanks.
