Default Drain Petcock help

2003 Z06

Ok I'm trying to open the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator to drain the system and install a new thermostat.

What tool do you use to open this little piece of brittle plastic which I am now starting to chew up. I have been able to turn it counter clockwise ever so slightly and thats it.

I've tried a flat head on the inside rectangular opening and a plyers on the outside of the entire piece.

I use the 1/4 inch socket tool in my socket wrench kit. It's the tool that looks like a screwdriver, but has a 1/4 inch head to mount small sockets.

The petcock only rotates 1/4 turn counterclockwise. Then use needle nose pliers to pull the thing out.

Don't over-torque on the way back.

Thanks, I got it out with needle nose plyers, one end in the center hole the other end on the outside, wiggle and turn.

Do you know how many foot pounds the thermostat housing should be tightened to?

When removing the old one, I barely hand to turn the socket and they loosened right up.

Thanks for the torque ref list.

Got my new thermostat in ok and seems to have cured the overheating problem.
