Default Are all stock MAFs interchangeable?

I know the sizes are 3" and 3.5" for the air openings. But how about the electrical connector? In other words can I put a late model 3.5" MAF on my 97 using my existing connector? I want to do this to address a problem with the Halltech Stinger which is not designed for a 97 (even though it is marketed as such).

I don't believe it is going to work, because the connector for the later model MAFs are different. Someone should chime in with a no "poop" answer, but I am pretty sure that will be the probelm with the MAFs.

It won't be a plug-n-play swap. 1997 - 2000 had a separate IAT sensor that plugged into the air bridge. As of the 2001 model year, GM switched to a MAF with an integrated IAT sensor (and thus, no hole in the air bridge). Also, as of 2002, the MAF for Z06 was different (de-screened).

Yes, I am aware of the vacuum line and the air temp sensor. I have that figured out already. I need to know about the ELECTRICAL connector that plugs into the MAF. Are they all the same for each model year? What I am getting at is I may be able to solve the misfit on the MAF diameter by replacing the 97 MAF with a later one that has the 3.5" diameter...same as the Stinger. Get it?? Jim Hall does not provide any adapters for this problem.

You can buy a connector for 30 bucks. I believe it's Pace Performance that sells it.

Here it is:

BTW, ordering from them online was less than pleasant. I'd phone them.

One of us is misunderstanding the other. There is no vacuum line to/from the MAF. The only connection is electrical. Here is the late model configuration:

Yes, that does exactly what I stated in my first post (above). It allows you to use a late model (5 wire) MAF with the early model harnesses that had a 3 wire MAF and separate 2 wire IAT sensor.

This is getting humorous now! I never said there was a IAT sensor fitting on the 97 MAF. Sorry if I wasn't clear. The IAT sensor on the 97 is way closer in the system to the throttle body near the accordian bellows. And the fuel pressure vacuum sensor is actually in the bellows itself and it runs with a thin vacuum line over the top of the block. The ONLY CONNECTOR/ITEM/THINGY going into the MAF on the 97 is an electrical plug. All I am trying to do is see if that plug is standard on all MAFs so I can substitute a newer (larger) MAF to address the issue of hose diameter clearance and fitment between the 2 different sizes of MAF from 97 and later...approximately 75mm to 85mm. It seems that adapter shown by the other poster answers my question. It will allow a larger MAF, and at the same time allow me to run the IAT sensor to the MAF location instead of into the side of the air bridge. CORRECT??? Do I have it right?

What kind of problems did you have with them? Also, I just went to the car and looked at the setup. It looks like my existing IAT connector will be 10 inches short of the Pace adapter's plug. What did you do about that?

I haven't installed it yet. I'm gathering parts for a custom intake I want to build.

The problem I had with Pace was a lack of communication. I ordered the connector and couple gallon jugs of RP oil. A WEEK later I get an email saying they didnt have that weight oil in gallons. So I email back, give me 2 jugs in a different weight. Four or five days later I get an email saying we dont have that weight either.
So I call the 800 number and talk to a real person. Turns out they dont have ANY RP in gallon jugs and havent had any for months! I say "do you have it in qts?" He says "let me check" and they have 11 qts so I bought it.
This process took two weeks and it could have been solved by substituting qts for gallons on the original order OR by at least telling me they had NO gallon jugs of oil.
The guy was nice on the phone and gave me the oil for the gallon price but it was just so stupid.
