Default Something I dont understand ...

I have a 97 A4 coupe and I'm running 01 thin chrome spoke wheels . I've read in here many times before that you cant turn off the tire psi system on 97-99's so I just lived with hitting reset every time I start the car to clear the DIC . About 2 weeks ago my car quit coming up with the service tire warning . Do I for once have a happy vette gremlin ? Any thoughts ? Charlie

I don't have any tire sensors at all . When I got the car about 2 months ago it kept having flats in the rear so I hit a local tire shop and had them remove the sensors (they were the wrong ones anyway) . My DIC shows nothing in the display except rear L R and front L R , no pressures at all . So what is going on ? Could I have a newer gauge cluster ? Charlie

on a 97 , yes they do .
mine will get to do the same for a while , to check for the sensors .
Trust me , this message we all dread so much will eventually return ,
especially if you go on a long trip and give your computer some time to think
it is nice when it does not throw that message on the DIC , but it will come back someday when you least expect it .

if you were getting flat message that means you had the right sensors on the car , the computer will not see the wrong sensors .now your sensors might have been going dead , hence the flat message .
now when you remove the sensors completey , as some of us have , you will get nothing but blank at the LRFR tire sensors on the display .
that is totally normal . you do not need to replace the cluster .
