My 02 just turned 5k and is all stock but a corsa exhaust. I notice when shifting from first to second at high RPM the clutch is slipping and you can smell it. I guess I'm very shocked. I believe the owner before me never beat on the car because it only had 2420 miles on it and the man was older and seemed very mellow. I myself have not taken it to the track and waited untill now to really get in the gas. I notice most with the traction control off. It pulls hard in first and when I shift to second will slip for a second or two at 4500 to 5000 and then start to pull again. Are the stock clutches junk and this is normal or do I need to make a appointment with the dealer. I do have a factory extended warranty with GM untill june of 07. Does anyone know if the will cover this or if they dont what kind of money you guys have been spending on installs?
Hey Jeff,
My dealership just replaced the clutch in my 04 under warranty and I only have about 9,000 miles on my car. They said the pressure plate had weak springs and thats what was causing my clutch to engage high. I did not have any slipping but it felt like that condition would have been around the corner if they didn't replace it when they did. They were also nice enough to upgrade me to a Z06 assembly in the process.
Good information to know. I'm going to call GM tomorrow and get the process running. I was shocked that after only getting into the car a couple of times this showed up. I read the entire warranty booklet tonight and it didnt say anything about the clutch not being covered however just about every other thing is'nt I'll let you know what they say tomorrow. Thanks
Called GM and they started a claim. I also made an appointment with the local dealer here for Thursday. All looks like it may go well. I'll keep you all informed. Thanks for the help
