Default HELP. Differential noise/questions...

Put the Z on jackstands and checked the rear wheels for any play. They had about an inch and a half. I could swear I read in a past thread here that you shouldn't have any play at all
(Just found the thread where I read that. "Differential Gear Oil" "I have just checked the bearings on other cars by jacking it up and then trying to rock the wheel back and forth. Usually one hand on the top of the wheel and one on the bottom. If it moves, then the bearing is probabaly going").
I checked this after I've noticed some light chattering from the rear of the car over the last few days.
I only notice it after I just start driving and do a u-turn or after the car has cooled down and I do a u-turn. I've done the figure 8s after driving a while and no noise.
I switched to Royal Purple at 6K and now have 10K. No noise until now. Should I add an ounce of the GM additive and keep adding an ounce at a time until the noise is gone? Is the play normal?

Thanks for any help.

If you have 1 1/2" play there is definitely wrong. You might also want to look at the ball joints why you have it up on jack stands. Make sure you preload the suspension by placing a jack stand under the lower control arm (outer portion).

If I remember correctly the max tolerance for the wheel bearing is .005" and .125" for the ball joint at the spindle.
