No, this isn't about politicians, it's a racing question. Does your car insurance policy cover accidents that might occur during drag racing? Does your salesman know you take it to the track every so often? I'm curious to know how the denizens of the CF deal with the occasional race.
I would be cautious. you DO need to find and read your policy and all endorsements. While it may vary state to state, I would rarely take the advices of your agent/friend.
Many I've seen have a clause (exclusion) as respects "time trials, closed course racing" etc. If it is not specifically excluded - that is- not in the policy or endorsements, it isn't excluded.
I'm sure more will chime in that are in the auto biz as either adjusters or agents. I just do aircraft coverages but actually DO read my auto and homeowner policies
From what I've read in policies, they state that if you are in a "timed event" or "practice for and/or competition" you are usually not covered. How does drag-racing fit into that? Not sure, depends on your policy, and how thorough/specific they are...
If you seriouslywreck during a drag race, you hire a tow truck to transport your car into some backcountry area. Then you push it into a ditch.
Next, call the police and file an accident report.
It's a balancing game. Do you...
1)pay thousands out of your pocket for body repairs
2)risk insurance fraud charges, increased insurance rates for a few years, police fines for reckless driving, and a guilty conscience.
I know a few people that have actually pulled off #2 with no problem.
The best thing to do is: LIFT YOUR RIGHT FOOT AND ABORT THE RUN IF SOMETHING DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT!!!!
I asked my insurance agent, and she had to check with the home office. Her response was "We would cover the accident, but then drop your coverage after that." This was with State Farm.

WOW!!!!! Someone actually said they would cover it. Most say they would not and then drop you.

I know my policy states drag racing is not included under my coverage. And, my salesman doesn't need to know what I do with my car. Some dealerships are cool with racing the car, others will use it as an excuse to deny any warranty work.
I'd be willing to bet that any legitimate policy from a reputable company has language that absolves them of any damage incurred from track, competition, timed events, speed contests, etc. Same with any warranty you get from a manufacturer or dealer -- I'm sure they say up front that if the car is used in a competitive manner, the warranty is void. That's what's in all that fine print that no one ever reads before they sign. ;-)
And sorry to sound harsh, but anyone that wrecks a car and uses fraud to get someone else to pay for their mistake is just a criminal.
If you can't afford to throw it off a cliff, don't take it on the track. Peace.
I've had friends who've totalled a car on a track at a driving school...and was covered. You may want to talk to some folks and see if there coverage you can buy for the weekend...but..as most folks say...if you cant afford to wreck it, dont race it.
