Barrett Jackson Auction
I was watching the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction just now and saw a 1970 Chevy Chevelle LS6 Convertible go for $1,150,000 that got the wheels turning, which one if any C5's will be worth that in 36 years?

Don't get your hopes up. Vette's are usually better maintained then the old muscle cars were and they weren't as likely to be blown up by some kid. That means that more will be around in the future. More usually means less value.
Who knows what the whims of the buyers will be in 30 years. Baby Boomers are paying unreal prices for muscle cars now, but this "bubble" may burst.
Now if I could get back the hemi 'cuda that one friend of mine had and the 428 Cobra Jet Mustang another had that both of them either blew up or tore up, I'd have a few bucks in my pocket. This is why the surviving ones are worth so much.

My guess is none of the C5s will be worth that kind of money, even in 30 years. More than likely, something like the tuner speciality cars will draw the most bucks.
I saw that last night, that Chevelle went for crazy money! That car was raced back in '70-71 and won many, many races, including holding some records at the time.
The driver was there, and he talked about the car prior to the bidding war.
The Vette's out there, I don't think I saw any go for more than $300,000 I think...

A C5 will NEVER be worth that because...
A 70 Chevelle LS6 is a RARE car to begin with. MUCH rarer than a C5. That car had only 61 ORIGINAL miles. Finally it also had a winning race history in which it set world quarter mile records.
I also like how the guy who bought it was all laid back in his chair and relaxed, like spending 1.15m on a car was nothing.

Do you think the owner of a 1966 Vette in 1966 who paid $4600 for it ever thought it would sell for 6 figures? In 40 years who knows what things will cost.

Except the Vettes weren't selling for anything NEAR what this car sold for. I didn't even see a vette bring 1/2 of what the Chevelle brought. That car was 1 of a kind due to the mileage, and race history. It set world records back then (it didn't just set the records, it shattered them). The same cannot be said about the C5.

True enough, C5's are ALMOST a dime a dozen but still, a MN6 Pace Car might be worth something 30 years from now. I should've been a little more specific, I know that no bone stock C5 would be worth 1.15 mill, but I was wondering what a clean low mileage 'vert or a Z06 would fetch years from now.
In the late 60's and early 70's, I worked in the installment loan department of a local bank. My job was to repo cars and other property of past due accounts. In 1970 I repo'ed a '70 triple black LS-6SS Chevelle. It had black buckets and a black vinyl top and white stripes. I think the balance owed was less than $3,000.00. If I had only known what I know now. The car had very low miles and was in great condition. Of course I was only about 24 and making 200 bucks a week then.
