I have a 2000 C-5 that I purchased from a private owner a couple of weeks ago.The car is very good condition with 36K.The original owner took it to the shop for the churping noise. The local dealer in Miami replaced the belts and tensioners. When I picked the car up that Saturday it was no churping.I drove the car back to Atlanta and before I got to Jacksonville the churping noise was back in the car.I took it to a local dealer here in Atlanta and was told the harmonic balancer needs to be replaced.I have all the records on the car which has been repaired by the dealer its entire life.I'm wondering is this a good thing or not.I really do not trust the dealer at all.
I've sprayed belt dressing on the belts and the noise goes away for a while then starts back.I'm really upset with my first corvette need help. How hard is it to changed the belts and try the Gatorbacks or the Dayco cog grip belts.Help.
well mine was churping and then the next day the harmonic balancer came apart and that is a 572$$ job at GM. once it was replaced the churping was gone. i read on this site that the churping is a good sign that the harmonic balancer may be on its way out. its a weak link for the ls1 cars. the rubber gasket inbetween the pulley lets go and it can cause a lot of damage. take a look at the crank pulley it may be wobbling around. thats a dead give away that it may be bad
