ecklers show my rant
Jay: Sorry about the loss of your son...
BTW.. Beautiful car. One of the nicest customs I've seen.

We've all been in situations where some insignificant security guard, or greeter, or person working a registration counter F**KS up - and then the entire organization is at fault. And we have seen the mob mentality here on this forum where people make statements like - "I will never buy anything from vendor X again" without knowing the facts.
I am not doubting Jay - but from the post it sounds like emotions are involved here (the loss of his son - my condolences).
Let's not be so quick to make judgements without knowing both sides of this situation. I doubt if we'll ever hear Eckler's side - but they are a Supporting Forum Vendor, and would prefer to withhold judgement based on the story I read.
I'm sorry for your mistreatment Jay.
As usual Randy shows great wisdom in his response. I would only add that my negative response was based not only on this story but personal experience when I visited their establishment while on vacation and was treated poorly. I received a call from their "Customer Service Manager" but his promises of repairing the poor state of their customer service situation were apparently hollow. promises.

One of the few smart people here...
Seriously, he makes a good point... chances are it wasn't an Eckler employee.
However, regardless if employee or not, I think though rules are rules, there are some exceptions. They should have let you in, not only because the show had meaning to you (your son, my condolences) but also you drove 90 miles.
A little compassion goes a long way.
Mark

I think you would have won this year. I,m really sad to hear the sad news about your son.
I still have the ZO6 wheels I purchased from you and they still look like brand new. Here is a photo:

It is the gray areas in life that always trips us up. I'm sorry I didn't know of your dilemma as I would have gladly given you my entry and you could have changed classifications, (it was my first time in a show and I had no chance of winning, was there for the experience.)
IMO I would have let you in.
As for Ecklers, I did not see a lot of poeple who worked for them as being car enthusiasts??? They were just employees. Eckler's may have reduced their payroll as they have expanded but at what cost of future and repeat business? IMO this event is done as a way to promote Ecklers' business. The show winners get certificates from Ecklers? So if they were losing money I doubt they would continue the show. So with that in mind, why turn away someone and leave a bad impression?
There is a show here in Brandon, FL on Nov. 18, hope you will be there.
As a father of four Jay, my heart aches for your loss. Please accept my condolences to you and your family.

While I don't know for sure, but I'd bet the application stated that registration was open from X time until Y time. So the fact that registration ended at Y time was not some unilateral decision made by someone - it was known when Jay made the decision to enter the show.
Where do you draw the line making exceptions.....5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes?
Now - would it have made a huge difference if they let him register 5 minutes late (if it really was only 5 minutes)? Pobably not - but the rules stated that registration ended at Y time.
All of that aside - I again question who made the decision to not allow Jay to register. Was it some volunteer from the host club that said - "sorry registration is closed" or was it an Ecklers employee? Even if it was an Eckler's employee, did that person go to someone high placed in the Ecklers organization to ask how to proceed and that high placed Eckler's person state - "NO - registration is closed! NO SHOW FOR YOU!!" (spoken in the Seinfeld character "Soup ****" accent)? I doubt it.
I guess the lesson for Jay as well as anyone here that shows their car is that if the registration is stated to run from X time to Y time - don't plan your getting to the show at Y time, plan it for X time....get there early. And if you miss the registration - oh well - better luck next time....live and learn.
As far as Eckler's is concerned - they may not have the greatest rep for customer service based on some of the comments here - but really their rep for customer service and this incident really have no relationship to each other. I disagree that it just another example of Eckler's lack of concern for the Corvette enthusiasts.
Again - Jay my condolences for the loss of your son.

Wow.... your son did one heck of a job on that car.
Beautiful
Nice looking car. I gave up on Eckler's a long time ago, as did a lot of Corvette owners on this Forum.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
on time i was not aware of the ten time limit but because people kept comming over to my carand kept talking to me it was after ten. ibelieve it was the president of the host club he said he was in charge. i understand their are rules but also being a business owner sometimes
you look at the whole picture and not just black and white thankyou

i drove 90 minutesto get their i explained to the host clubs pres
and besides that i told him this show meant a lot since my son who
designed the car recently passed away and we took second the last to years and he still said you cannot enter. i would like to thank
ecklers, the host corrvet club and of course the president for being
so compassionate, having a lot of commonsense, and knowing about
public relations. in closing this was a car show and not a court of law. thatyou for taking the time to read this jay

Could have sworn I saw that exact car running around Lakeland at Lake Mirror Classic on Saturday Oct. 21., both at the show and in the evening at Longhorn Steakhouse. It did not stay, it was an hour wait.

This thread reminds me of another one I saw not too long ago about another father with his son that were turned away from some Corvette show because they showed up five minutes late.
What's the deal, here? Why so **** about who can enter these things? Why aren't any exceptions ever made?
It seems so ridiculous to me.

I agree, there is always more info (3 sides to the story),
In addition, I haven't read anything good about Eckler's on this forum, and I think that there should be an across the board boycott. Sounds like there already is!
I was at the show and we had a great time.
Late is late. What other rules should they bend?

Give the guy a break, geeeez!
