It takes about 15 minutes, but the light should go out by itself - its a power saving feature for the battery. Also, you can just unplug it - the connector is located on the passenger side down towards the bottom of the radiator shroud by the air cleaner assembly.

It's on about a 15 min. timer. When I'm at shows or cleaning under the hood for any length of time I just unplug the light. There is a quick connect right next to the air box just below the hood, very easy to get too.
Check the latest Corvette Central catalog... I believe they have an aftermarket harness that has an on/off switch. Pricey I thought at about $50. My $.02

For $50, I'd expect it to include a removable light that you can move around under the hood.
