I Have been monitering the charging rate on the new car via the DIC and I am seeing a charging rate of 14.1 to 14.4 Volts at the start of each days activity. Since I only have 530 miles on the car I havent been driving it that much on a daily basis since I took delivery on the 29th of August but the initial charging rate seems a little high to me when compared to other cars I have owned, I expected something around 13.6 Volts but it seems to hang around 14.1 Volts as a minimum. Sure would like to hear what others are seeing. This has in the past been my first indication of a bad Delco battery, loossing charge overnight. PLease advise.
I have a 2001 Z06, and have had nothing but trouble with my electrical systems in the car, including a high charging rate. If I am driving at night and run the electric windows up or down, the headlights dim very very badly. The only comparison I can make is the difference between headlights and the daytime driving lights on other cars, it is that bad. It is at the point now that even when I hit the brakes or turn on my turn signals the headlights dim. I have taken it into the dealer twice now, and both times they have noted that, yes, the lights dim noticably, but all the voltages are "within spec"... same crap line as I got when I complained about the ridiculous oil consumption. I would have ditched the car a long time ago if it weren't so much fun to drive!
I don't know .. that seems normal to me. I've only checked it on my Z a few times, and it's been in that range .. On my '93 however, in the 18 months I've had it, it has always been in the 14.2 - 14.4 range, so I've come to accept that as the normal alternator output.
The voltage generated is a function of load and alternator/regulator component temperatures, and the voltage sensing circuit that feeds the gages/DIC may also have some temperature sensitivity
The normal range for automotive electrical system voltage is 13.5 to 14.5 volts. Sounds like yours is completely normal.
