Default Question about blackouts.

How well do the lights show thru them. Do you sacrifice looks for safety.

I have the Black Cherry blackouts from Richard Todd at Corvette Enhancements. These actually appear to allow significantly more light through than the stick-ons I had previously. I know that's an issue for anyone considering blackouts and it certainly was for me.

From Patches' pictures, looks like you still get a decent amount of light through. I know Richard (Corvette Enhancements) is going to be offering the led taillights with his blackout treatment pretty soon. That should improve the light output even more. Don't know if you've seen this thread or Richard's post so here you go either way.

From a couple of blocks away they are hard to see at night.

Of course you are. You're putting a light dampening material on your safety equipment. I'm not so high and mighty that I won't admit that on some installations, it really looks hot, but the bottom line is that you are reducing your visible light output. Any one who says different is lying to themselves.

The only way I'd consider it would be to switch to LEDs which have a higher lumen value then the stock lights, and even when dampened by blackout material can often put out the same (sometimes higher) visible light as a stock, untreated lens.

I've been anti blackout (except for shows) for years, but that's just my opinion.

And yes, I have seen accidents caused by blacked out lights, not allowing the brake light to be seen during the day. Granted, it was a Monte Carlo and not a Vette, but the principle is the same.

That's my 2 cents. Someone take this damn soapbox away.
