Default Is something wrong with my car?

Ok so I know this is going to sound odd.

Anyways I was leaving work yesterday. I had turned off the active handling feature (do whenever the weather is nice) I was getting ready to turn out of the parking lot and was partway through the turn when a car comes flying up on me so natural reaction was to floor it. Now something that supprised me is the tires didn't break loose at all. On every other vehicle I have had (my truck and mustang) my rear end chirps under only moderate acceleration around this curve. So my question is simple. Is my car just a turd or is it because of the IRS or do the stock tires just grip really well?

BTW the car was in drive again with active handling or whatever turned off. Off and if it matters I had about 3/4 tank of gass and my 50+ lb wheelchair in the back.

BTW I am in Colorado where the thin air steals a good amount of HP

Not that rare if you were already rolling a bit.....would need to know what gears you have, (2.72's ARE dogs), which trans, what tires, what the ambient temp was etc............Worst case, you have the A4 with the stock gears, and grippy tires= no spin. You'd have to power brake a bit at full stop to get them to chirp......

Sounds like you've got a few things working against you. First, was the car up to normal operating temperature? If not, the computer will dial back the power. Second, you mentioned that you are at a higher altitude. This will sap an engine's power big time, regardless of whether it was up to normal operating temp or not. And thirdly, you mentioned your tires. Most any tire you put on a Vette will certainly be stickier than other car/tire combos. Put all three together and you have a "perfect storm" for reduced power. Also, I think any two of them would make a noticible difference anyway.

just my 2 cents worth.

Yeah that is mostly what I was thinking. The car wasn't up to normal temp yet either. I just havn't dyno'd yet and am a little aprehensive about it.

Thanks

Yes they have the 2.7x gears. I am hoping to fix that pretty soon however. Like I said haven't dyno'd yet and just bought the car. Wanted to make sure I wasn't the wrong kind of factory freak

Mustangs and trucks have light rears - Easy to spin the tires on them with even moderate power levels.

I have to ask, why would you turn off active handling in nice weather?

Maybe I have it wrong but I figgured active handling was kinf od like the traction controll in my Mustang. I always turned that off because I didn't like how it bogged the motor down when I lost traction

Active handling and traction control are two separate functions. One saves you if your car exceeds certain yaw thresholds, the other stops your tires from spinning.

Ahh ok I thought they were the same because when I took the car for a test drive I decided to do a 2 foot burnout with one foot on the break one on the gass and it wouldn't do it. I turned off active handling and it did.

You can disable traction control while keeping active handling...well, active. You really should read your owner's manual if you have one.

Without being rude, disrespectul or insensitive do you mind me asking about the wheelchair thing. Not so much about your specific issue, but does your disability require your vette to be specially modded in any way.

My vette is completely stock. I am an amputee I am missing my left leg from a motorcycle accident. I am able to load and unload my chair myself. It is a hardtop with removable top and the back cargo area has plenty of room for a wheelchair

The SERVICE TRACTION
SYSTEM message and
the TCS warning light will
come on to let you
know if there is a problem
with your TCS system.
See DIC Warnings
and Messages on
page 3-58.
When this light and the SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM
message are on, the system will not limit wheel spin.
Adjust your driving accordingly.
The TCS system automatically comes on whenever you
start your vehicle. To limit wheel spin, especially in
slippery road conditions, you should always leave the
system on. But you can turn the TCS system off if
you ever need to.
To turn the system off,
press the button located
on the console. You can
turn the system on or off at
any time by pressing the
ACTIVE HANDLING
button. The DIC will display
the appropriate message
when you push the button.

One press turns off Active Handling and Traction Control. Press again and both are back on.

Press and hold button for 5 seconds and you go into Competitive Mode. That means the Active Handling is ON and Traction Control is OFF. It will display Competitive Mode in the DIC. Press reset on the dash to turn off the display. Hitting reset will not take the car out of Competitive Mode. It only clears the display.

When you shut off the ignition and restart everything defaults to Active Handling On and Traction Control On.
