I've been looking to get a C5 to go with my C4 but my little 4 yr old daughter beat me to it
She recently broke her arm on the playground and after we got done at the hospital we went to toys r us. Had to post pic
Congratulations, brother! Now that is one cute photo of your daughter in her new ride. Extended warranty is a plus. And, do remember that the hood seal is worth an extra 10 horse power. Enjoy!
They did get recalled. In fact, all 3 of those vehicles in your photo are the same thing. (Barbie Corvette, C5-R, and Fire Engine) - There is a mod kit to make it more safe that can be obtained directly from Kidtrax. Something on the circuit board fails and causes the battery to short which has caused 49 of these things to have their battery catch on fire or melt. See link: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recal...st_rideon.html
I filled out the form for their fix and received the kit in a matter of days. Quite simply, they didn't fix the board, they put a fuse on the battery harness connector so if the board fails, it will pop the fuse before it can short the battery. So they really didn't fix the cause, they're just preventing dangerous damage from happening if your board fails. I installed the new harness in 5 minutes. There was supposed to be a new board available, but that never happened. I assume some lawyers just chose the safe route and had the company stop manufacturing the units altogether.
Since they're not making these anymore, if you found one, its old stock. I think the fuse solution makes it safe enough so I let my boys ride it, but when its dead, its trash.
