Hood fit problem
On my recently purchased 2000 coupe there is an aftermarket hood; It is an ACI hood. The center rise is of medium height.
The problem is on either side of the hood for about the last 10 inches
as it approachs the windshield there is a gap between the side edge of the hood and the fender. The gap on both sides is about 3/8 ". The hood fits nice and straight and even but there are these 2 gaps on either side.
I was given he stock hood that came off the car.
I was thinking of covering the gaps with cleartastic paint protectors. My concern is rain water getting into the engine compartment and ruining something in there. It appears rain can also get thru the center section of the hood (the end facing the windshield) as there is a big opening there as well ( which is proper, as that is the hood design ).
Are these hoods designed to be driven in the rain ? Should I be concerned with water getting into the engine compartment ?
I like the looks of this aftermarket hood but I don't want to hurt the car
and will replace it if I have to.
I don't have an aftermarket, but I can give you a TTT for someone else to possibly answer. Frankly though unless the gap is big enough for a LOT of rain to flow through, I wouldn't suspect you're going to have a problem. Cleartastic is a great product but I don't think its going to work for you to fill a gap. Rather, I would find something similar to the hood seals that many of us have for the hood where it meets the front fascia.
However, all that being said - you may want to take it somewhere to have the hood adjusted. It may be a simple solution to do a bit of adjustement and close the gaps. Unless it was a "cheap" (no insult intended) aftermarket, it should be adjustable where the gap is a non-issue.

Thax for the welcome BlackBeauty. I'm going to pick up the car in a couple of days. I drove it once and inspite of a few problems I think, overall, I'll be happy. I hope so. I am new to the corvette although I had one in 63. I am moving from a VR-4, which was a great car. I'm sure I'll have alot of questions.
I wouldn't worry too much about the water as the engine gets water thru the radiator and up from the pacement when you drive it in the rain. A body shop should be able to adjust the fenders in on both sides to close the gaps if you don't want to tackle it yourself.
