Default Window adjustment

I have a 1999 convertible and the windows on both sides hit the top on the rear upper corner of the window.
Any help on how to adjust the windows would be greatly appreciated. I have searched the forum and others on how to do this, but no go.

Do a search under my topics (from a while back), and I believe I have helped answer the question, a time or two - if you don't find anything when searching my past topics, post here again, and I'll try and post what I did.

This is from memory from a couple months ago, but here goes:

You need to remove the inner door panels - to do this, you have to pop the window/lock switches out and unplug them; then, there is a plug behind the inner door handle which pops out; then there are 2 torx screws behind that plug that need to come out; then, there are 5 or 6 plastic pins around the outside of the inner door panel that need to be popped off - start in the lower rear corner of the door panel and work your way around till the panel can be removed

once the panel is removed, there is a black, plastic like sound deadening stuff on the door towards the rear of the door which you peel off

Then roll the window about 1/3 to 1/2 the way down, until you see an adjuster mechanism at the bottom edge of the window, inside the door - this mechanism slides in the window channel - it is a MALE torx type adjuster as I recall and it takes a FEMALE torx socket to turn it - turn it one way to raise the window, and the other way to lower the window - WRITE DOWN which way is which, cause you will want to adjust a little, roll the window up, see where you are at w/ the door shut, and open / shut while continuing to repeat the process until you have it correct.

There is also a clamp at the front, lower edge of the inside of the window for adjusting the FRONT of the window - experiment a little - you might find that you need to adjust BOTH the front and the back

My instructions above don't sound the greatest to me, so if you need additional help, or this doesn't make sense, post here and I'll try and explain or we can exchange cell phone numbers and I'll walk you thru it

Once you get the inner door panel off, the actual window adjustment took me about 10 - 15 minutes per side and I found it to be EZ and it worked well.

Let me know how it goes for you.

Bill.

You don't need to remove your door panels. Remove the reflector on the door to access one of the adjusting bolts. Then look under the door and you'll find a locknut which enables the first adjuster to be used. loosen it's locknut and turn the screw in or out to adjust the tip in of the window. If your window is touching the top when you are closing the door it's probably due to to little tip in of the window. When the door is closed the window should be pushing in the weatherstripping uniformly along the whole edge of the window. If your's is touching the vert top when closing I'll bet that part of the window isn't tipped in enough to clear the roof and is not sealing against the weatherstripping properly. I thought Tech Tips should have this but it doesn't I hope this helps. Let us know how you do.

I just looked it up in the manual. If your problem isn't the tip in and you only need to adjust the height then there's another plug (round) under the door. If you remove both bottom plugs and adjust both of these equally you can adjust the height of the window only if you requre 3mm or less. If you want more adjustment than that then you must remove the door panel to access all the other mounting points. The first part of my post is still good for the tip in adjustment.

Default don't tip in too much

Just a warning from personal experience, tipping the window in "too much" will cause the window to rub on certain parts inside the door. A cable pulley rivet for example. It can either scratch the glass or mark up your tint (if you have tint).

Also check that the window isn't grabbing at the weatherstripping while it's rolling up (with the door closed).

Bill.

just did this to my son's C5 yesterday .
the only thing i would add is that there are 2 male torx adjustments in the window , one in thefront and one in the back . you have to remove the insulating cover in the back of the door to get to the rear one , and remove the Bose speaker to get to the front one .

turn clockwise to lower the window .

P.S you will have to set the window half way down to make the adjustments , then roll up for fitment test .

I just tried GrayC5's recommended link to fix my window hitting the convertible top. It took me 5 minutes, the window slips right past the top into position now, and I'm going to enjoy the absence of drips when it rains hard! Thanks!!
