Default Question

Hello, newbie here.

Great forum with tremendous amount of information.

My question: I have a new to me 01 C5 with 44000 miles which I am thoroughly enjoying. Someone recently posted on another forum that the 01's were known for using oil. Is this a known trait for the 01 C5?

What other problems, if any, should I prepare for?

Thanks in advance for the replys and again great forum.

I know someone who knows more about the specifics than I do will chime in, but yes the early 01's were known for oil consumption problems. I believe a ring issue. Stay tuned.

I think that the oil issue was more common for the LS6 (Z06) engines for 2001. Had to do with the piston rings... Some LS1's also had the issue. (see post here)

Other than that, check out the sticky at the top of the C5 General forum (here)

Oh, and enjoy one of the greatest cars ever built...

Thanks for the input.

At 44000 miles, if it was going to happen, would this motor/car have already experienced this problem?

I love the car and was hoping the small things that can occur have already been repaired.
